I think what the "I don't care how much my flashing blinkie annoys you, I'm not changing" crowd risks is that sooner or later they are going to irritate some politician (or someone who knows a politician) and you will then see some legislation regulating the lights you can put on your bike. There are already such regulations in Europe and the more outrageous the behavior becomes the more likely it is this will happen in North America too, and when it does it will be a major PIA for everyone since they will undoubtedly over-regulate in reaction.
