Wow. This thread took off. OK, I should be more specific.
I'm looking for a pilot for a human powered helicopter. For every 20 pounds lighter than 135 pounds they are, their power to weight ratio can 6% less than 10 W/Kg for 60 seconds. And for every 20 pounds over 135 pounds, their power to weight ratio can be 6% higher than 10 W/Kg 60 seconds.
The reason I posted this thread was I was having trouble finding people with the power requirements, and I wondered if I'd be wasting my time to try recruiting high school athletes as pilots.
I assume older athletes have more muscle, but that also means more weight. People with more power win level ground races, whereas people with higher power to weight ratios win steep hill races.
For that matter do you think I'd be wasting my time to recruit college athletes, or should I just look for well seasoned athletes at race tracks?
One other question I have is why I got no responses to my other thread. I wonder if people thought the thread was a joke, or if they don't have a watt meter on their bike, or if they do but don't have enough power for 60 seconds, or if they are afraid it will crash (only has to temporarily get 10 feet off the ground, and can't drift more than 16 feet). I've looked at athletic statistics and world class cyclists output 12W/Kg, so I was hoping I could find someone in my city who can do 10 or 11.
