Bikes: 02' Jamis Dakar Sport, 05' Trek 1000, 80's Western Flyer hybrid

King, NC...just north of Winston-Salem...@ 4 hours from Asheville.

There are some nice trails in the area (Hobby Park, Tanglewood, Owl's Roost, Westwood), but I'd also look into Uwharrie and the trails in Raleigh.
