Light and rideable/reliable are two different things IMO.
I wouldn't want to be commuting every day on some 10 spoke unobtanium wheels and .05 lb carbon nano-tube track machine that is uncomfortable for more than a couple miles.
I'd spend $1,000 on a bike that a) fits perfectly b) has quality components, made to last c) is subtle, not flashy.
