I don't know much about them but the military uses a non-lethal green laser weapon called a dazzler for disorienting. Apparently according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dazzler_%28weapon%29, non-military products are becoming available for use in law enforcement and security applications. The picture is one serious looking laser.

Does the university do any research with the military?
