Why is it out of the question? You would have to solder about 16 joints. That would take what, half an hour if you were frighteningly meticulous? I already found them, in the parts bin at Radio Shack.
It would run you about $20-30.
I have a nervous condition that prevents steady hands when trying to do things like solder.
