Thanks for the input but I solved the problem. I took my bike in to a local Performance Bike shop and had them look at it. The mechanic literally tore my shifter up, cut my rear brake cable, and removed the shifter unit. The cable end is still stuck in there but even if I ever managed to remove it, the shifter is shot to pieces. Now I just need a brand new shifter and derailleur and brake cables
That's lame beyond words.
Given the shifter was totally fixable, they should actually fix it, or replace it for the price of a quick repair.
It's not your fault they hire incompetent monkeys, is it? So you shouldn't be short a shifter.
