Happen to have both the Forte CM 310 (3 velcro straps) and a pf or Shimano upper end MTB shoes (not sure of model, but cost about $150 on sale...)
Like them both...
Very impressed by the Forte
have them now for 3 seasons, prolly about 16K miles on these and they are still solid, stiff and comfortable. A little riding in wet conditions, but must CA typical weather...
I really like these...
fit me great right out of the box...
Shimano's - have for 2 seasons and have about 8K miles. Also good...
like the micro-adjust buckle, but not really better than the velcro - just used to ski boots and buckles...
I do about 8.5 - 9.5 K miles a yr, hence they both get some solid ride time.
one thing about both/either, as compared to road shoes...
wasn't really payin much attention to this over the years, but, MTB shoes are heavy!
stiff! and heavy!
the Forte CM310 weights in at 975 gm (44 with Crank Bros cleats) and the Shimano are a massive/clydesdale 1085 gm !!!!!!!!!!
just decided to give real roadie shoes a try again, so I bought a
pr of Sidi Zephyrs. Mid line shoe, but very nice, comfortable and 565 gm for the
pr with cleats...!
That's ONE lb less of rotating mass - I Noticed that big time!
I need all the help I can get - being a olde pharte and trying to keep up with the kids...
The Fortes and Shimanos are being retired to 'social' ride time, foulweather and weekday training rides...
YMMV
