Is there any reason I should consider a Secteur Elite Apex over a Trek 2.1?
I'm in the market to buy a bike. My goal is simple. Aluminum frame, carbon fork, 105-grade components, and a more slack geometry. There's a VERY reputable Trek dealer in the area, one I've talked to many times before. I feel very confident with this bike shop and would foresee absolutely zero issues in the future in case anything out of the blue comes up.
Likewise, there IS a Specialized dealer in the semi-area as well. He's a bit farther up the highway but do-able if there's something earth shatteringly better about the Secteur. Haven't stepped foot inside yet, but I know he exists.
The Trek has some stuff going for it, in the sense that it's more affordable by about 150 bucks (not a huge deal, but hey, that's a pair of shoes, a case of beer and some change) AND it's what I want to a T AND I've ridden it and love the thing. The particular Trek I rode was the 2.1 H3 model, which when comparing the geometry of that vs the Secteur, it's pretty similar.
I've still got a few bones to save up before I can pull the trigger, but I got to wondering what users here might think. I know that you should ride it to make the best decision, etc., but is there anything feature wise that would make the Secteur stand out that much more that my very short few weeks in the road bike scene just isn't seeing? The only thing I can think of is the components... not sure how SRAM stacks up to Shimano, but I assume due to two bikes being in the same price league that the APEX's would be compatable to the 105's I had in mind.
Anything to add?
