The 2.1 has a triple option, so the lowest gearing is equal to the Apex. From my understanding, the Secteur has the same comfort level as the Roubaix. I don't know how that is so, because only the Roubaix has the Zertz in the back and seatpost. I never liked the ride height of the Roubaix compared to the Trek. Then again, if the H3 is comparable to the Secteur/Roubaix, and that's probably the reason why I didn't like the Specialized. I test rode an H2 5.2 and it was a better fit between the two.
Anyway, just test both and see what you prefer. You have the Apex which I believe is lighter than the 105 Compact. Then if you end up liking the 2.1, you can get the same low gearing with the Triple. You just have to deal with the additional weight.
