Test ride SRAM and see if you like it. Performance-wise, you won't see a difference between the two. However, you may prefer SRAM's double tap, adjustable levers, and smaller hoods to Shimano's smoother shifting, dual shift lever, and hood shape.

Personally, I like SRAM. The single shift lever is a great design, and I also like SRAM's look. The smaller hoods fit my hands better, but I haven't tried the newest line of Shimano (5700, 6700, 7900).

I think Apex may be a bit lighter than 105.
