"Cat's Cradle" is an excellent history of Haiti . Vonnegut's genius really shines here.

One of the best back to back reads are "A Voyage for Madmen" and "The Long Way". Read them in that order.

"What is What" by David Eggers.

And if you like to read just bad ass prose, Raymond Chandler's Phillip Marlowe stuff is really top notch, Dasheill Hammet is also pretty cool.
