ZOOM makes a fully adjustable stem that states right on the package "for mountain bike use". I have one on a vintage Nishiki that I still ride on single track. Other adjustable stems state not for mountain bike use on the package. The ZOOM stem is a little heavier and has better construction compared to the other adjustable stems. If you're not going to do any significant jumps, you'll probably be OK using an adjustable stem that is intended for MTB use. My LBS sold me the ZOOM stem when I told them what my intentions were. They had no reservations because of the statement on the package.
