The sidewalk would be good riding option, but it frustrates to no end that doing so only reinforces the notion to a number of motorists in where a cyclist should be when there is no bike lane present.

I recently had to deal with a very vocal motorist on that very same subject when she adamantly went out her way to force her personal cycling beliefs on me.
