Keith, the OP lost three auctions in a day. I think it is fair to say that he was unwilling to pay the real worth of the crank(s) in question. Is that a negative statement, or just harsh reality?
To answer your first question, the reason one sells on eBay is to maximize one's profit. That should be obvious.
