There were two or three bike shops here in Los Angeles who were listed on the Pashley site. However, either they didn't call me back (not sure they are still in business) or don't actually have the bikes. Also, they had only the single speed and/or the three speed version. I would have had to buy one of those ($1400), then buy an Alfine hub and spokes ($300) and rebuild the rear wheel. Even so, I'd have to get a rear brake, as the Guv'nor has only the rear hub brake which would be lost when replacing that hub.
My only point here is, I did the best I could. It's not perfect, but cost much less than $1k and it came out pretty cool. I wanted a "technology demonstrator" for the Alfine hub. That, I achieved.
I think the Cactus is possibly a better solution but they are not yet available. You know what they say about "a bird in hand,...".
