Unlike the belief of Perchick in Fiddler on the Roof not every question has to be a political question. Cycling and the reasons for and the support is not a left verses right, conservative verses liberal thing. If it is political and liberal left conservative right then it is doomed.
In my experience cyclists simply love cycling and will cycle no matter what side of the political spectrum the rider might hold to.
