With respect, there's not really such a thing as a "french seatpost." French bikes' seatposts were many things, but uniform was not one of those things. Each had different sizes -- Peugeot used one, Motobecane used another. With any French bike, you have to check that specific bike's seatpost size.

Cites: I have a '76 Motobecane, an '83 Peugeot PH10-LE, and a '79 UO-8.
