You need to know how high you want your handlebars. The steerer tube needs to be long enough to reach from the fork crown to 1/8 inch below the top of the threadless stem. And it would be best that the steer tube is even longer so that it can be cut after you've had a chance to try the setup. Be sure you buy a fork and headset of the correct steer tube diameter to match your frame.
