You've just encountered very few drivers that could drive their cars to their full potential. Most people can't exploit the full potential of a Toyota Corolla let alone an actual sports car.

As to the OP: Don't think too much about it and don't look at your speed while going down hills. Probably at 30+ or so your injuries are going to be the same except for the circumstances: you know, everything else around you when you fall.
