I just drove back from the Keys and was thinking on the way down, would I want to ride this route? There were sections between Key Largo and Islamorada that were under construction with no shoulder and very dicey. If there is traffic, I'd feel very uncomfortable, especially riding solo. South of Islamorda was very nice.

You might want to contact some of the local bike shops in this area to get some advise.
