By "SPD", you might as well expand that to "SPD-compatible", or more specifically, compatible with 2-bolt cleats. "SPD" is Shimano's 2-bolt clipless standard. To fit the same style of shoes, you can also look at Crank Brothers and Time like commo_soulja mentioned.

I've also heard that SPD cleats are inherently taller than CB or Time cleats, so they click and crunch more often when walking.
