I just got into serious recreational cycling in November of last year. I was riding an old $100 Wal-Mart MT bike. I never knew that you could spend $5000 on good bike. Then for Christmas my wife took me to a bike shop and got me a Gary Fisher Tiburon Hybrid bike that was approximately $350 not including the other $200 on cycling gear. Around February I was getting more into cycling and told her that I wanted to get a road bike. She was not happy. She felt that I was ungrateful and that I didn't appreciate the "new" bike she had just gotten me for Christmas. Between the end of December and February I put 500 miles on the hybrid. Finally, she gave in and let me get the road bike. A Giant OCR2 ($800). Luckily, I've managed to put 850 miles on this one so far this year. Now I want a Carbon Composite bike! She actually was ok with me getting it. I told here I would save up for it and get it sometime before or after the end of the year. So all I can say is that she now understands and is being very supportive. I haven't been able to get her to ride with me though.
