Something you can do is to solder in a two cell holder in pace of the coin cell. I used a double AAA holder from Radio Shack. The biggest thing is to make sure that you do not place the + and - wires on the wrong pieces of metal. I find that the coin cells last about 1 year on average and the correct sizedifficult to find overseas. AAA are available almost everywhere and are easier to find.
I did it about a year ago on one of my bikes and so far it had held through rain and shine.
