I also can't figure out why so many guys that used to play team sports when they were young have a problem with spandex. American football pants are just really thick spandex, with pockets for a few pads, and you had to take gang showers with 20-40 of your closest friends after football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and wrestling practice when I was in school.

Besides, they ARE NOT equivalent to wearing a speedo or a thong. I mean...I would not wear them to go grocery shopping, but anytime you are on the bike, a decent-fitting pair should be just fine.
