If I were to say I love my Giant Anthem and recommend it to anyone! I wouldn't expect a roadie to go out and get one. I would expect the people that are looking for an XC MTB to take it into consideration and look at it - based on the fact that there has now been a user testimonial about that product. Saying I like something and recommend it does not mean I think everyone with every biking need should get it because I happen to like it. I think if his posts were read with any charity, the same could be said for them. I'll respectfully bow out now.

I can see your point. But if a new mountain biker with an unknown amount of knowledge on the different styles of mountain biking & corresponding components is asking for recommendations, it's pretty common sense to first ask where they're located, what the trails are like, etc. before recommending a bike. It's like going to a car dealership looking for a sedan & before the salesman even asks you what you're looking for, he tells you that a purpose-built Wrangler rock climber would be perfect for you.
