Today I went on a ride to check out some routes and to see how long it would take to get to my work's new location. ( Got transferred closer to home so I'm gonna commute.) And on the way back I stopped at a Salvation Army's thrift shop and I see a old Centurion Elite. It's been sitting a long time. The tires are flat and brittle. Cables are powdered rust. Chain is stiff and also rust coated. The seat stem actually has measurements on it.
The Shimano 600 grouping look great. Rather nice actually. A little wear but not too bad at all. And the break levers are beautiful. I think they're sporting a monogram of CG or GC maybe? I'm not familiar with it. They have holes all over them and look very nice.
The frame is grey and a little too large for me. But only because of my short legs. LOL
I seem to be able to reach the pedals okay. And also the drop bars with no problem either thanks to my long spine..
Anyway The Salvation army always price bicycles too high if you ask me. But after 30 days they drop 50 % if they haven't sold yet. But every time I'd go back the bike I had my eye on would be gone.
This Centurion was priced mark just today. Just one day. And at $101.99 it was $45.00 less then the Diamondback MTN bike next to it.
I had to justify this and came up with this... I been out looking at new bikes at around the $400-$600 range to cruz to work on. So I figured...Why the hell not? Some new rubber and a good soaking and a little lube here and there and this bike will be just as good as some of those new bikes I looked at. It will only coast me a hundred bucks and maybe 8 hours at the most.
And I only have two bikes. I need another one anyway.
