I’m just saying, it seems they spend a lot of time knowing what will catch people's eyes. I like the look of a nice Madone, Tarmac or a TCR, and Dura ace, SRAM RED doesn't hurt my feelings at all. Walk into LBS and see what people are looking at and what they are buying. Even a classic bike stripped down isn’t worth as much as a clean one with the Paramount still displayed. A Waterford looks good all by itself but it looks even better with the emblem on the head tube. After all we buy better components because they are better and not many are interested in buying them in a plain brown box.
If someone is trying to disguise what they have then I can see the point. But if I buy a classic watch it is worth more to me if there is a name on it. I can’t see trying to scrape Brooks or Selle off of a saddle, Look off of a pedal, Mavic off of a hub or Dura Ace off of a wheel unless the decal was already peeling.
I once bought a Haro Escape A7.2 from a guy and he had to reduce the price because he had stripped the bike down to bare Aluminum. If it would have had the original paint I might have sprung for the additional 90 bucks he wanted. I just feel that is one of the reasons they don’t see a lot of plain bikes new. They look OK but they don’t catch your eye. Except for the few that don’t like the look of the bike in the first place. Just how I see it.
