I don't understand how the decals would diminish your experience of riding a bike, except for an insignificant weight/aero thing. When you're in motion, enjoying your bike as a bike, you shouldn't be looking at the frame or saddle bag or whatnot; eyes on the road. I enjoy "playing with" inertia and gravity, challenging myself to climb the steepest hills around, flying down the other side, navigating hair pin turns, etc. Decals and branding are irrelevant. I get the impression that working as hard as people are talking about to live up to the no-logo ideal is the mirror image of (ie the same type of obsessiveness as) people who only buy a bike because of its brand.
And you have some very legitimate hills in Seattle. Like I said I have spent some time looking at both used and new bikes and when searching for a used one the more original and clean it is the more interesting it is to me. I know when one has been stripped and repainted it can still be very nice but it then suddenly becomes a personal statement. In the sense we have been reading it almost seems like rage against the machine. I am sure I could enjoy a bike as much without the original emblems on it and I am sure a good component set would work just as well without Shimano, Campagnolo or SRAM on them but I doubt if they would work any better or look any better.
