Simple Newbie Question

Hi I am a new person to the cycling world and was looking for some advise. I am in the market for a new bike but I have a limited budget which makes my selection pretty small. But I came across a used bike at my LBS and I was wondering what the disadvantages would be in buying a used bike? I have taken it out on multiple test rides and the bike seems fit me well. Its a Cannondale R500 that is pretty much stock except a Ultegra rear Derailleur and they are asking $800. It is a 2 year old model and I dont know what kind of mileage it has but it seems to be in good shape. All the gears shift smoothly and the frame is great shape. I was just looking for some input from some more experienced minds than mine. So does this seem the way to go or should I just buy a new bottom of the line bike? (because that is all I can afford right now)

Thanks, ColinT
