if it's the tops, then your bars might be too far forward, because you should be in the drops or on the hoods for most of the ride. If you're comfortable in the drops, your most normal and neutral position when just riding along, then you can always grab the hoods or tops when you're exhausted.

If your neutral position is on the tops, then you'd never use the hoods or drops, which give more comfort and control, because they're too aggressive or far away to reach properly and comfortably.

think tops = last resort when you're exhausted.
Never considered this. I'm primarily on the hoods but I'm trying to incorporate riding in the drops more often as well. Tops are for when I'm tired or want to stretch out.
