-21C this morning with an 11km/h head wind. A nice crisp clear morning and the stars were bright. Cold enough for the snow to start squeaking as I rode over it (around -30C it starts sounding like styrofoam). I'm back on the touring bike which is much more enjoyable to ride. I switched my clipless pedals for platforms so I could wear heavier boots. My feet still got cold, so I think its circulation related. My thumbs started getting cold in my mitts near the end. The front of my upper legs also started getting cold. About 3/4 of the way in I encountered some ice fog which left a nice powder white coating on my bike and all the trees in the park.
The respirator, googles and neck gaiter combo kept my face nice and warm. Although excess moisture drips out of the mask onto my top bar and freezes there. I think while riding the mountain bike last week that moisture was dripping onto my jacket.
The ride home should be nice and sunny. I called the city to see if they can clear the snow out of the bike lane between the university and the park, which has become pretty much unusable. Hopefully they run the mega snowblower along it, to clear it right to the curb.
