I am new to the forum and relatively new to road cycling, but I've read numerous threads and have found them a wealth of info. This past season I picked up a 1986 Miyata 710. I paid very little for it and like the frame very much. The guys I ride with all ride newer bikes. Without being blasphemous, I'm trying to find the cheapest way to upgrade my drivetrain. I want to use as much as I can of the existing components, but would like to go from a six-speed freewheel to a cassette. I don't want to go to brifters. Any suggestions? What would be compatible?
