I was working under the (perhaps false?) impression that if I could easily upgrade to a new rear der. (105 or Ultegra) and cassette the shifts would be faster and smoother, even though my existing 600 stuff is decent quality. Maybe I'll just replace the freewheel and ride it like it is.
