Keep in mind that riding on snow is one of the very few times when relying mostly on a rear brake (or pedal resistance on a fixed gear) is safer than a front brake. Rear wheel skids are fun. Front wheel skids usually put you on the ground.
Still rely mostly on my front brake (with snow/ice and hills) and don't have issues. Proper tires and knowing how well they adhere is key.
