never do that!" sentiment often expressed about winter cycling, and commuting in general. Sure, while a number of people probably mean "...because I'm not stupid or crazy, like you", I always prefer to interpret it as "...because I'm nowhere near as tough as you."
Some of us just like doing things the hard way. I've got a bus pass, included in my tuition, and the bus is both quicker and easier than the bike. But I'll only take the bus if the snow's too deep to ride, and when I do I end up missing having gotten outside and exercised. I prefer telemark skiing to snowboarding, and backcountry skiing to lift-served. Work is often its own reward.
