Hello i have an old schwinn varsity, with original wheels. ive taken it the bike shop two times, one very recently and that time was to get a new rear tire and a few cables repaired after i frayed them on reassembly after painting it.
ok, now to my problem, on my ride today i looked back to notice my rear wheel had about a tenth of an inch wobble and when i lifted it and spun it i heard a grounding sound (best way i could describe it almost like metal on metal) but not that loud. Ive looked at many pages about spokes being loose and need trueing so i checked my wheel some spokes were looser than others which leaves me to believe it does need trueing but this still leaves me with the grinding sound. My dad heard it and saw it and assumed i needed a new wheel bc he said it sounded like my bearings were shot (i hope this is not the case.) I wouldnt mind spending a christmas gift or two on it if i hadnt just gotten a new saddle, paint and tire as early gifts! I understand itll be hard to tell what it is from just a description but any help would be nice!! If i can avoid a trip to the shop and just one to ebay for some nice alluminum wheels I can but if it could be repaired that would be great to know also! input would be appreciated...
