From someone else's sig: "If it's not too cold to ski, it's not to cold to bike." When people ask me if I get cold biking, I tell them that it's no worse then skiing. Sometimes you can watch the light turn on above their heads when you say that.
As for winter joyriding, only if the skiing sucks. We get mid-winter ice storms sometimes, where every surface gets coated in inches of ice, and the only exercise I can get is riding the bike (winter running sucks, IMO).
No exercise and no daylight makes GriddleCakes... something something...
