That's where I'm headed after years of seeing such reports. Although many of the stories you see on TeeVee news are based upon stuff published in distinguished journals, I'm assuming they leave out many of the qualifiers and caveats that water down the practical effect of what has been observed.
It's not just on TV News, though. I've heard some pretty incredible presentations @TED talks and other such forums where people talk about the rate of progress in sequencing the genome and that kind of thing. But again, it always seems like the meaningful benefits are always "just around the corner." Five-ten years from now we'll have cures for almost anything!
