What I have been hearing is that touring style bikes tend to run large anyway. I know it's individual preference but some LBS personell have suggested that a larger touring bike (with even a higher top tube) is ok as the idea is one would be riding greater distances and having to stop less. I suppose this makes sense as top bar height -- in my eyes -- really comes into play with stopping and/or mounting or dismounting. It's nice to be able to touch the ground quicly without having to worry about crushing your family jewels. Again, I believe the length of the tube is totally correct for me. I appreciate all of your comments. They have been helpful.
