Interesting. I didn't realize both sunrise and sunset don't "turn the corner" at the solstice. NOAA shows something similar for Boulder at

I think this is the effect of position within the timezone. At least mostly. The sun is directly overhead at noon only at one longitude while the timezone covers about a 15 degree range.
