I had a guy cut me off yesterday. I was making a left onto a side street in the left turn lane and obeying traffic laws. He was making a left out of the side street to my right. I could tell he didn't see me and was going to cut me off. I saw it coming and steered around behind him. Of course, that's about when he seems me and swerves away messing up my line. He waves "sorry" and I just shake my head. This was no big deal, but eventually it will be.
The time I was cut off by someone turning right and over the hood I go resulting in shoulder surgery, I may have been able to avoid it if I'd been paying more attention. But maybe not. I don't recall all the details. Not implying anything in your case, but I've learned that paying attention pays. I also listen for cars as they approach from behind and often glance back to see if they are going to give me 3 feet or not.
