I will ignore the Troll and toss in my 2cents.

If I were looking for a nice all around campus road bike I would chose the Univega in a heart beat. More versatile (racks etc), room for fenders and a drive train that should work just fine. The lower costs leaves money to buy a new set of tires (almost every old bike I have bought needed new tires) and will still keep you around $200. I have found old friction ( and even most of the index) Suntour 'gear' to work exceptionally well. Newer components also work just dandy.

What ever bike you end up with, you may need to replace the stem with one that is longer or shorter to get your fit just right. It is really amazing how the comfort level of a bike can be impacted by fairly small changes in areas like that.
