I'm going to finally ditch our Sony Wega for a flat screen...I've spoke to a lot of my buddies in the industry who are really into this kind of stuff and most don't think 3D is going to take off. I'm not buying a 3D TV, for the extra money I'd put it toward a better 2D TV.
I agree about the 3D thing not taking off.
I had to recently buy a new HDTV. Our 4.5 year old Samsung DLP died like all of them of that vintage do, but Samsung has never heard of this problem even though they had lost a class action suit in NJ over this issue. For once it is good to live in NJ. Too bad I don't.
I got a great deal on a Panasonic "G" series 54" plasma that is only 2D. I went to the store looking to buy the 50" but they didn't have one in stock, so they gave me a KILLER deal on the 54". Lovely video image.
