I'm a pretty slow cyclists so when touring with a buddy, I encourage him to ride his own pace and I'll catch up sooner or later. He gets longer rest breaks than me. This has worked well so far.
To each his own, within reason, makes a better tour for both.
That is exactly our situation. JOhn and DAryl get a longer rest, Davy and I get to go our own pace. It works well.
