I've owned at least four FSA triple cranks, with 53/39/30 or 53/39/28 chainrings and they all worked fine with a Campy triple FD.

If the shift from the 39 to the 30 won't work, it's usually a chainline issue, or the limit screw is set improperly. If the limit screw is backed out all the way the the FD touches the top tube, but still won't make the little ring shift, the chain line needs to be 2-3mm further to the right.

I haven't had an 18T cog since 1999, the last year I rode 9 speed. Never miss it, with a triple or a compact.
