C&V or Modern ride?

OK, first a full disclosure: I normally spend most of online time in the Classic & Vintage forum. And while I may not be quite prepared for PBP, I do put in a lot more miles than most of my roadie buddies. I'm looking to get into randonneuring and 2011 is the year I plan to come out of the closet. My real quandary has to do with the bicycle itself: contemporary or vintage? I'm not soliciting advice about the "best" bike for me, or on which to ride a brevet, and I understand that ultimately the choice of ride is a very personal one. I am curious, however, about what those of you in the LD forum consider to be your favorite C&V bike for endurance cycling compared with your favorite contemporary ride. (Notice I said "favorite" rather than "best" - "best" just opens a can of worms, I think.)

Thanks!
