The oldest bike I've done PBP on was older than me. The youngest bike I rode at PBP was first ridden two days before the start. Different nationalities have different approaches, Brits tend to ride older bikes than most.

If your C&V bike is comfortable, ride that. It'll be fun whatever you ride and C&V wheels and gears are more forgiving of on-the-road bodges than most modern options.
