I sure would like to have my '60s Legnano back, but with a more modern drivetrain. That bike was comfortable and fast, and I did some distance on it. Drivetrain may be a major reason we don't see more classics out there. Brevets commonly have a lot of climbing with some really steep pitches here and there. I don't know my riding history well enough to know if the climbing has increased with lower possible gears, or if we've just gotten soft, or if it was once unheard of for the elderly to ride brevets like we do today, or if it's just that almost no one walks today unless something's gone wrong. I believe my Legnano had a low gear of 48 X 26.
