So I've had a couple of off list responses sent to my original query. If I sum them up as follows, the preferences for C&V rando rides lean towards French geometry and 80's Japanese touring geometry (i.e., Myata 1000) along with two votes for Trek 620. I see Voyageur brought up a lot in C&V touring, but I have one and I'm not impressed with the combined speed/comfort/ride quality/geometry factors quite honestly. On modern rides, I've heard an incredible variety of opinions! Some of the specific suggestions have included Masi Speciale Randonneur, Surly LHT, and Kona Sutra. Anyone have personal ride experience with any of these, either modern or vintage? (As a side note, I've ridden my PX-10 and my Freschi Supreme on 120+ mile rides a couple of times; both are comfortable, particularly the Freschi, but neither have lugging for racks, etc., and fenders may also prove a challenge. I've also done long-ish rides on my Centurion Super LeMans and the Schwinn Voyageur; as noted above, the Voyageur doesn't come close to doing it for me: I hate the "dead" feel. I've done a couple of centuries on my Cannondale and that was only ok.)
